A utility ladder is one that allows users to climb to different levels to reach things that might otherwise be out of their grasp. While this approach is sturdy, it does take up some of the room in the truck bed that you are trying to keep free for other items. Another common installation method is to anchor the support beams of your ladder rack into the side rails of the truck bed. This is just as sturdy and installing the ladder rack in the bed of your truck, but it does not take up any extra space.
